OK, so we didn’t really go to China yet, but I had wanted to give a little more attention than usual to the China section in EPCOT. Seeing as this area doesn’t have any rides, we usually just skip over it, and ride that little canoe down the “River of Time” in Mexico. Not so this time…
The ceiling inside the big Pagoda.
As soon as we entered the main building, guess who was there to greet us:
Mulan!
She literally just walked right up to the girls, which was unexpected and very cool because you usually have to wait in a decent sized line to meet the characters. She took pics with the girls and talked to them for a while. Of course, my eyes were welling up with tears, because I am beyond sappy! Annie asked Mulan if she would sit with us while we watched the show, giving Mulan the chance to practice her rehearsed turn-down line of “Oh, I’m sorry, princess, but I have to help Mushu set off the fireworks!” Very cute.
The Chinese acrobat kids usually do their show outside, but it was pretty chilly that evening. So, they moved the show indoors. They were really impressive. I have some video I may post as well.
This girl balanced a big vase on her feet, twisting and flipping it around, and then she moved on to a table.
She spun the table all around.
The little boys were pretty impressive as well!
Next, we visited the 360 degree theater to see the movie, which made me tear up, and then saw the model of the terra cotta army.
Surprisingly, this did not make me cry, but it was neat to see!

So, I know it’s a ridiculously far cry from the real thing, and if you have been to actual real China, feel free to mock this. For now though, it’s all we’ve got. Plus, I don’t think I’d really looked at EPCOT China much since I was, like eleven. So a visit was long overdue.
...Oh, and after all that, Annie told me that Mulan actually did come sit with them for a while during the show! I was over on the side of the room taking pictures and keeping Benjamin quiet...
I've been to the real China, and I won't mock you. We're actually headed to Disney the first week of May (over David's Gotcha Day which is 5/5) and really looking forward to showing him the movie about China and all that fun stuff until we can get him back to see the real deal some day. Email me if you're going to be around and want to try to meet up. Hope your paper chase is going smoothly!
ReplyDelete"Oh, I’m sorry, but I have to help Mushu set off the fireworks!" I'm definitely going to have to use that line the next time the toilets need a scrub down.
